Richard Leit, Ph.D., is a licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in working with children, adolescents, families, and adults. He received his B.A. in Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania, followed by his M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the American University.
He is trained in cognitive-behavioral, family systems, and psychodynamic theories of psychotherapy. Adept at working with a range of problems, including oppositional behavior, ADHD, depression, anxiety, OCD, autism, and pervasive developmental disorders,
Dr. Leit utilizes an integrationist approach to psychotherapy that involves both parents and children. He also provides comprehensive Psychological testing to clarify diagnoses, assist in making school placement decisions, and determine cognitive and emotional functioning. Testing can be used to obtain an independent Child Study Team evaluation or second opinion to compare with the school’s results. Assessments include intellectual abilities/IQ testing, grapho-motor abilities, (refers to the mechanical ability to write letters and numbers) anxiety, depression, & ADHD. A specialized assessment for Autism/Autism Spectrum Disorders using the gold standard tools of the ADI-R and ADOS evaluations can also be provided.
He has published articles in peer-reviewed journals and presented at professional conferences. Dr. Leit has been a staff psychologist at Children’s Specialized Hospital in Mountainside for the past 7 years, and has been in private practice for the past 6 years. Previously, he had worked in other mental health settings such as a community mental health clinic and an inpatient psychiatric facility.
